Interesting Facts about Fetal Development

It’s amazing how babies develop from a mere group of cells to an actual human being in a span of just nine months. Indeed, nothing embodies the miracle of life better than giving birth to a baby.
While the child in the womb may be growing out of sight, many interesting thing happen between a baby’s conception and his or her delivery. Here are a few interesting fetal development facts you might not know about:

I See the Light!
Your child may be cloistered inside your womb, but by four months he or she can already detect light sources. Researchers proved this by shining a light on a mother’s belly. When the light was directed at the fetus’ face, the eyes seemed to blink.

Smells Good!
Love the scent of fresh cut flowers? Chances are, your baby does too. That’s because by 28 weeks, he or she can smell the same things you do. In fact, the amniotic fluid surrounding the fetus actually enhances sense of smell.

Nature and Nurture

Sixty percent of your baby’s brain development is determined by genes; the next 30% is determined by the uterine environment; and the last 10% is determined by your diet. So when it comes to fetal development, it really boils down to nature and nurture.
